BACKGROUND

OVERVIEW

Geelongs annual Festival of Sails is a significant feature on the Geelong communitys event calendar. The event brings together a world-class sailing regatta on the pristine waters of Corio Bay with an abundance of free activities and entertainment along the iconic Geelong waterfront.

Typically, the event sees more than 100,000 visitors across the entire event. As well as this, there are also more than 3000 hungry and thirsty sailors coming shore side after a full day of racing.

EVENT WITHIN AN EVENT

In 2019, the Festival of Sails will once again be held over the popular Australia Day long weekend. Coinciding with the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race, this year the event will introduce the Regional Artisan Fair, in partnership with The Food Purveyor.

Located on Fairnie Park, directly outside the Royal Geelong Yacht Club, the Regional Artisan Fair aims to showcase the best makers and growers in our region. Vendors will only be accepted for this area if they have produce or products that have been grown or made in the Geelong, Bellarine, Surfcoast or Colac/Otways region.

CLEAN REGATTA PROGRAM

In 2019, the Festival of Sails has joined the “Clean Regatta Program”, aiming to make our event more sustainable, environmentally friendly and reduce plastics that end up in our ocean. Vendors who have minimal plastic and alternate packaging will be highly favoured in the application process. We have a strict NO PLASTIC STRAW policy for all vendors at this event (biodegradable bamboo or paper straws are acceptable).
